New Tire Report
So, I've ridden two days on my new Conti GP 4000 tires (gray tread) and I must say I'm pretty satisfied with my purchase thus far. The rolling resistance seems pretty decent and they corner very well. Today we did about 30-40 miles in the mountains and let me tell you, when you're climbing the sixth 4 mile hillside, you're glad to have the least bit of rolling resistance as possible. They weren't the cheapest tires, for sure, running at $50 each (at the local bike shop). You can spend less if you shop online, but sometimes you pay for convenience if you need tires now instead of waiting for them to be shipped to you. I also went through quite a few spots on route today with a lot of debris and potholes with no issues, no gouges or things of that nature. After about 60 miles, I give them a thumbs up. I'll post my thoughts after 500 miles, too.

Good to see you like the new tires. A little while ago I went through a new tire purchase for my road bike, and I ended up getting the Michelin pro race 2 tires. After about 8 months of training/racing, no complaints!
I looked at the PR2's too during my shopping experience. I read some reviews on them and compared to the GP4000's they seemed to have a lower tolerance for all around wear and tear. I think the PR2's are a bit lighter than the GP4000's and may have a little better grip, thus well suited for racing. However, I use my bike almost every day to get to work so i wanted to try to get a well rounded tire. No pun intended. There were 10 times as many reviews for the GP4000's and the appreciation level was still well over 75%. I felt more confident with the volume of advocates who also use the tires for commuting. However, if I do end up racing this season, I may get a set of PR3's to have just in case.
